Seymour M. Hersh (author of "The Dark Side of Camelot") is one of the defendants being sued by the Cusack and Cloud Plaintiffs in the ABC Action (and was served in Washington, D.C. on December 8, 1997, at 6:10 p.m.). Hersh made the following public statement on the CNBC Hardball Show (in segment entitled "The Kennedy Legacy", with Host Christopher Matthews) concerning the Cusack/Kennedy Documents:
Quest. by Host "What about the documents which purported to show that she [i.e., Marilyn Monroe] was about to accept a payoff from Kennedy? What do you think of those documents now?"
Ans. by Hersh "As you know... The public is beginning to learn,... it's a close call. I mean, you know, 60 Minutes , you know, did a show the other night [ed. note: 11/23/97]. But for the longest time, they thought that actually that some of the handwritten Kennedy documents might be accurate, so I understand. But the bottom line is, even if some of those documents are real, which is a possibility ... [then Hersh goes on with defamatory statements about Lex Cusack and the documents]."
